SES light

88' IROC-Z
When I turn the key to on/engine off the SES light begins to flash slowly, after a few seconds it double the flash rate, if I start it (the engine) runs rough, will cut-out if given throttle, and the SES light continues to flash at the same rate.

Anyone have a clue at to what's going on? I couldn't find any reference to the SES flashing like that in my manual?

No, the ALDL terminals are not jumpered, (if you're thinking I, or someone else had left it in diag mode.)

That's really weird cause I was going to say that the ECM would have to be in DIAG mode

That's why I put in the last paragraph, but if it was in diag mode wouldn't it flash a code instead of continiously flashing? I can hear the vapor canister solenoid clicking insync with the flashing, that doesn't happen when it does flash codes properly, which if it did I'd have some idea as to what's wrong.

I thought it (running rough and cutting out when throttled) might be the maf so I disconnected it , no difference it still dies if I give it throttle, it ran fine during the 20 minute cam breakin, this is the only thing keeping me from getting on the freeway to seal the rings.

I've had lots of problems, all have been mostly electrical i.e. bad oil filter (oil pressure pegged at 45psi,) fuel pump, relays, wiring, ignition module. .etc all the emmisions stuff was removed or bypass so it took awhile just to get it back to normal, and there were times when I had to let it sit for a minimum of five minutes before it would start up again, which went away after 3 ECM changes. The engine is mechanically sound.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for posting.

In case anyone wants to know. The problem was one, or more solder joints cracked around the EPROM pins on the MEMCAL module.
