Service engine light NOT blinking with scanner
i posted this in the wrong spot earlier today....
My light came on briefly when driving it, and it's been running rough in the morning. Mileage 16-19 without air conditioning.
i bought a scanner-actron cp9001, plugged it in and ses light stays on when i turn the key to on, NOT starting the motor.
It's a 1994 v6 camaro ODB1 sticker, so Im pretty sure Im doing everything right.
the scanner book says try the manual cuz it must blink a code 12 no matter what. the haynes manual has NOTHING regarding a non-blinking light when scanner is plugged in.
Any ideas? thanks

Re: Service engine light NOT blinking with scanner
Not sure about the V6's, but for the V8's, 1993 was the last year you could flash the codes on the SES light by shorting the ALDL connector pins. That Actron is basically just that... a $35 substitute for a 1-cent paper clip. It says on the box it will work with 94's, but it won't. Check the Actron website..... shows it is only for use on vehicles up to 93.
You need a "real" OBD-I scanner.

Re: Service engine light NOT blinking with scanner
I kinda figured that after I read all the posts. Thank you very much. You just saved me from checking everything under the hood. Any recommendations on a scanner model number? ODB 1 chevy 12 pin plug. actron recommends an AutoxRAY brand for $250
again thanks

Re: Service engine light NOT blinking with scanner
I'd buy one that does OBDI and OBDII, as you'll have an OBDII car sometime, if you don't already have one. Check Amazon for reviews. They did have a good deal on the Autoxray 6000 model that does 1 and 11.
BTW, Actron and Autoxray are made by the same company.

Re: Service engine light NOT blinking with scanner
Make sure it will for sure read them before you buy though. My dad has a new can tool that supposedly reads all obd1 and 2 cars. It has all of the port attachments, and even lists my car as a car it will read in the menu of the scanner. Wouldn't do crap when I plugged it up though. I ended up buying a cable and using freescan to find out what my codes were.
