Which serial-USB adapter to use for Tunercats?

Hey everyone,

hey which serial-USB adapter are you guys using for Tunercats? I have been told Belkin is the brand to use.

Any help would be much appreciated

From everything Ive read so far, any of them are hit and miss. Its really diffucult to get one that is dependable. What makes it even worse is that companies no longer build computers with serail ports

Right, the Belkins or any one that uses the FTDI chip.

Do you have a part or a model number for the Belkin adapter?

Somewhere, probably, but I looked and cannot find it - sorry.

If you find one with the the FTDI FT232BM interface chip, it should work.

HP Tuners users always had issues with the Belkin. The Keyspan one always seemed to work the best. Google Keyspan.

Yes but their original cable used a serial port. Seems everyone that had to use an adapter had good results with the Keyspan after having issues with others.

I like my moates.net cable that has it built in. It uses an ftdi chip as well.

I believe I have an AKM cable I bought back in 2003, doesn't say anywhere on it though, but it has a serial port. Now the question is, can I use the Belkin USB-serial adapter to connect it to my laptop?

I use the Keyspan 19HS also. Up until recently my computer would crash when I used it, but they've since fixed their drivers and that problem is gone now.

I just realized another potential problem - do either Belkin's or Keyspan's drivers work with Windows Vista? I sure hope Tunercat works in Vista too
