Security light wont turn off
Security light wont turn off
a couple days ago my security light came on after i had to jump my car, its a 99 M6 z. the light will occassionally turn off but always comes back on after i start it. sometimes the car wont start too, im assuming it is because of the security because my battery is reading over 13 v and i just put a new starter in so it cant be either of those i dont think. after a day or two of the light being on and the car crankin over whenever it pleases i started using my spare key thinking there was some kind of malfuntion with the chip in the key i was using. so now it is basically still doing the same thing. i have tried disconnecting the battery, locking and unlocking, and i still cant get that light to turn off. is there any way to bypass the PASS II Key system or reset it or something because i think thats whats throwing that light on. any advice would be much appreciated.
Is the security light flashing/won't turn over at all when it won't start? Don't know if it's just going bad or related to the jump start or not - might just be a coincidence. Anyway, you can turn off vats with programming or bypassing it with a resistor matching the value of the key pelet if you want to try that first. http://shbox.com/1/vats_bypass.jpg
no it wont even start to turn. when i get on the clutch and turn the key it is like turning it with a dead battery, you have some power but nothing happens. if i wait a while then it will start up and the batter reads fine but the security light just stays light, doesnt flash.
I had a similar problem when I tried entering my 96 Z from the passenger side. The alarm started going off and the starter sounded like it would only click. I also disconnected the battery, tried unlocking every lock on the car and even beat the hell out of the starter, but nothing happened. Even hours after, it wouldn't start. Just for the hell of it, I tried again about 3 days later and it started right up. From then on, every time I opened the driver door, I had to put the key into the ignition within 3 seconds or the alarm went off again. I later got rid of the car, but always figured it was because I had lost the keyless entry control. If you happen to not have a keyless entry, my only suggestion would be to pick one up from the dealer and try that.
