Security Light

I currently own a 1994 Camaro Z28 and I love it, but as of yesterday it has stopped starting. For some reason, the security light on the dash has come on. I don't think it is a problem with the key (cleaning the key is a solution the owner's manual suggests) because I backed it up out of the garage and then, when I went to pull it in, it wouldn't start.

How do I reset or turn off this security system so this car starts again?

Do a search for vats bypass and you will find the answer. Pretty easy to do.

Re: Security Light

Thanks. I didn't even know what to search for on Google, so I didn't get a whole lot of results...

Well unfortunately I don't have a resistor lying around the house, nor do I have the ability to get the resistance value from the key.

Am I stuck taking it to the dealer or making a new key?

Re: Security Light

Sometimes a new key doesnt fix it. I got resistance to my key by getting a maintence man at my work to check it with his ohm meter. I went to radio shack and got the resistors I needed to make it work.

Re: Security Light

Well, thanks, it appears I'll just have to get it towed to the dealership and they can fix it there.

Thanks again.

Re: Security Light

I really hope you can fix this yourself or at least have a friend help you. Towing a car to a dealership and having them fix it is going to cost you huge.

Take a look at these links:

Re: Security Light

Turns out the starter needed to be replaced...

The security light was on, but it was because starter was just defective....

$300 later and at least it will work...
