Scanner wont connect with car....?

Ok i recently bought a 99 Camaro with the 3.8. Car needs intake gasket and Service Vehicle light stays on. I hooked my Actron CP1945 scanner up to it to find out what the service vehicle light was all about but the scanner just says cannot connect...check connections. Whats would cause this? Car starts and runs find just intake leaking some water and is getting fixed this week. What should i try as far as checking the codes? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Check the lighter fuse. Some scanners need the 12v power that this fuse provides to the DLC.

You could always go to Autzone and see if their code puller will work. If their's works, and the one you have doesn't then yours is kaput.

Is it a serial cable? I've had a couple serial cables fail on me over the years, just had to replace one again a few weeks back. Also, check the back of the OBD2 port on the car. I've had a wire pulled out on cars before and you can't get a signal then.
