My understanding is that the 7200 rpm limit is a function of the relatively slow processeing power of the OBD1 system.

It can't make adjustment fast enough to support the engine above that RPM.

I don't know of many LT1s turning that hard with a Factory PCM Or intake. If your car needs to turn that hard I would upgrade to a aftermarket system. Above 7200 the PCM will just read off the last input on the fuel and timing tables.

well i have the cc502 ported heads and intake. the bottom end is all forged w/ h-beams and i have the 918's.

yesterday when i was just out making noise i was running it to about 6500 and it was doin fine but when the tach hit 7k it cut out and let off a puff of black smoke out the exhaust. once the rpms go back under 7k it cuts back in and runs fine. is this a rev limiter? cuz i thought i didn't have one

what aftermarket pcms are good for lt1?
