Reseting 'check engine' light after an accident
Reseting 'check engine' light after an accident
I bought a car that was in a front end accident. The car has been fully repaired, but the check eninge light still comes on, along with the airbag light (i think) Is there a way i can reset this? or i can do something to get it to stop? Or do i have to bring it to the dealer
What year is the car? I can tell you part of what you need to do on a 4th Gen (since it has airbags, but why make us guess
)......
I don't know anything about the airbag controls, but the PCM can be cleared two ways.... 1) pull the "PCM BAT" fuse for 30 seconds. 2) continue to drive the car normally, and the SES light will go out after a certain number os successful drive cycles without the problem recurring.
Personally, I would have the computer scanned and find out what codes were stored, then clear it and see if any of them come back. That will tell you what was successfully repaired and what you still need to work on.

SERVICE ENGINE SOON light is reset by pulling the battery, or the PCM_BATT fuse, which is above the left knee. If it comes back on though you have an issue that needs to be taken care of. I had a SES light like this, for about 3 months before my Optispark finally died. The car felt fine, but I had much warning ahead of time before that Opti finally went out on me, I didn't think much of it because the car drove fine. This is the first EFI car I've gotten dirty with, and have learned it for the most part, so I can tell you that light isn't coming on for no reason, if the problem had went away the light would go away also, obviously it hasn't.
If only the body was repaired and not EVERY issue, then this explains partially what is going on. It could be unrelated to the accident as well, things die over time, especially if there are leaks etc.
