Replaced Exhaust now Service Engine light on, Connection?

Hey all, I replaced my stock exhaust on my car with a stainless steel Borla Y Catback, model 140028 (nice 4" tips). This was done last month, and the service engine light came on today.

Had the guys at local Firestone check it out, they said P1405 was the code that came up. Did some looking and it seems that is "P1405 Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Valve 3".

They reset the error, it did not come back on, but is there anything else I should check or watch for? Or what exactly does that error mean anyway?

The GM diaganostic site does not show a P1405 for the 2000-2002 LS1 engines. Are you sure that's what he read? There is a P1404, and that's for the EGR pintle sticking open. Also checked the master OBD-II code list at AutoTap, and while you have the correct definition of the code, that code is not shown as being applicable to the "F" car line.

If there is a P1405 code, it would be related to EGR system performance. When you install a catback, or other exhaust system performance component, it is likely that you reduced the back pressure in the exhaust system (that's where the power gains come from). Reduced back pressure can result in diagnostic codes appearing, since the EGR system flow may be reduced.

Drive it and see if the SES light comes on again. If it does, take it somehwere else, or at least watch them scan it to insure they give you the correct code.

Thanks for the reply guys. Yeah, he said it was an "undocumented code."

Either way, my exhaust sounds great, car runs great, and the light hasn't come back on today, I'll let ya know if it does.
