Removing VATS
I had a BCM that was bad and I replaced it. This new BCM that i had purchased was already in another car, and therefore will not start with my key, obviously. I already connected the wires on the theft deterrent relay so enable car starting, but the problem i have come accross is that the car will start and run for about 5 seconds, then die. The security light it also on during all this time. I am trying to find out what else i must remove from the car, or wire in the car to make it not do this. I just want to get rid of VATS altogether. Do i need to do something to the VATS module (to which at this point, i don't know where that is)? I'm thinking the BCM is turning off fuel pressure, or the PCM is cutting the injectors? Any help with this would be great guys, car is sitting at home and not drivable at the moment.
Thanks

I recently had to bypass my VATS. The way I did it was first I turned off the VATS with TunerCat software. I believe this will allow your car to run and not turn off the fuel pump. Then, behind the glovebox on the right hand side (actually attached to the glovebox) there is a relay for the VATS to allow the starter to start. Take this relay out and cut the purple and brown wires and attach them tightly with a butt connector. (DO NOT ATTACH THE YELLOW AND PURPLE WIRES, OR THE CAR WILL START IN ANY GEAR REGARDLESS IF IT IS A MANUAL OR AUTO.) This will allow you to start your car without the VATS. If you do not have TunerCat, the other way is to take an ohmeter and check the resistance of the chip on your key for the car, and go to radioshack and buy the proper resistor(s). I just used 1/4 watt resistors even though there is not that much load needed to enable the VATS. Take the resistors that you bought and hook them up to the two wires in the steering colum where they go to the key cylinder and that way you can trick the VATS to thinking that there is a key in the ignition. The two wires that you are looking for in the steering colum are very small and mine were incased in a bright piece of orange wrapping.
I hope this helps you out
