Relay for CEL

Has anyone used a timed relay on thier CEL for it to go on with key on but go out when started?

Re: Relay for CEL

An ELK-960 placed between PCM and dash indicator would probably work ELK-960 Delay Timer Module, why not tune out the DTC causing the SES, also turning off the light won't trick emissions testing.

Re: Relay for CEL

Its not emissions. Its a safety check here in HI.o
They check the SES for on, then off. Check windows for proper tint, mirrors, lights ect...
After swapping to a carb set up there are alot of unneeded things...
I finally looked at the car yesterday.... IDK why some people "work" on cars..... I found the vats box completely cut out and house wire twist connectors under the hood... oh and the fuel regulator in line with the return line plugged...... I can go on.... So I am very sure the SES light would be the only function of the computer.... Would a tune be cheaper? I haven't even tried to pull codes yet. My guess is too many lol....

Oh yeah and the knuckleheads who put the motor together did not mark TDC or even put a timing tab on it.............FML!

Re: Relay for CEL

If your running a carb setup, not sure if you can tune out everything in an OBD2. Best bet is something like I mentioned above. Set it up to light CEL when ignition is turned on and then set it to go off at variable number of seconds. I was looking around for a simpler off the shelf setup, a relay or control that just picks for a few seconds after turn on then goes off, but could not find one for 12 volt applications. Lots of them for 24 Volt HVAC or 120 AC motor control etc, not many for 12 v automotive.. Someone w/electronic background could build one pretty easy..

Re: Relay for CEL

yeah the car has a few more issues not really worried about the SES not coming on anymore as I noticed the whole dash does not work. The car is a 92 so its obd1 there are still quite a few sensors running to the pcm. it was a 305 TBI setup so map water temp o2s ect...

Re: Relay for CEL

Doesn't the SES already have a timed relay for key on? Or does the computer control this function?
