If it was a weak sensor ground it would reflect in the voltage and possibly affect other sensors on that same circuit right? I will check out the wiring tomorrow

New Symptom:

This is the first time I have seen this. Yesterday, I started the car up for the first time and everything was great. However, after running for a few minutes and while looking at the PCM with datamaster the TPS % and VDC went haywire. One record I have .14vdc and 24.7% throttle. Another record shows 0% throttle and .25 tps. These two records are within 2 secs and its all up and down in between. All of this at idle which of course goes haywire with the TPS. I guess this pretty much tells me its a wiring issue

Well gents I had a chacne to get out there and check the wiring on the tps sensor and I can find nothing wrong with the tps wiring. Good ground good ref voltage and good "sensor voltages" back to the pcm.

Does anyone know how a pcm could read the correct voltage for 0% tps but show a higher than 0% throttle??

$300 dollars later and I still have the same problem. I took it to RPM in Garner. They also found that at 6k rpm my battery voltage is down to 12.2vdc and Im loosing 20 psi of fuel pressure and I had a bad coil. It never ends.

Any fresh ideas out there on the TPS problem??

Have you looked at the TPS connector to make sure that the metal in them is not wallowed out and losing connection on the pins when it it put on? You might just need to crimp them down a little.

I have looked at them and they look fine but I think I will crimp them down anyway when I get the car back

I've seen this before where the TPS wasn't preloaded enough, so it read too low of voltage at no throttle input. The internal spring in the sensor didn't keep it tight agains the throttle shaft and it bounced all over the place. Maybe try adjusting the voltage to 0.5-0.55v and see if it clears up at all.

TQdriven- I've always set my tps vdc to .67vdc. The .14 and .27vdc I was talking about in that post was not a normal reading.

Here is something else I just remembered. While on the dyno I started throwing a tps high code. The guy hooked it up to his Genesis and everytime the tps volts would go over 4.86 vdc the %tps would drop from 100 down to 0%. Is that normal? I thought you could go up to 5vdc with the tps. We had to bend the throttle stop on the bracket to get it to stop at 4.83 vdc.

Hmm...well if you are getting a TPS high, I would maybe try tweaking it down to .45-.5v and see if that disappears.

I also thought you could get up to 5vdc on TPS but it might have something to do with referencing the idle reference voltage.
