Programming help tunercat?
I used the search, read thru almost every post, and still have no clue what im suposed to do. I have to change my injectors from 72lb/hr to 36lb/hr because Im not putting in my supercharger untill next summer. I have a cable to connect to the computer, but have no programming programs or experience. I downloaded the trial version of tunercat, and if i could get the damn thing to work I would definatly buy either that or lt1edit. The car is a 97 ss. and I guess my questions would be does the trial tunercat work with my car, and if so, how do i get it hooked up.
my car is the 97, but the compter was changed to OBD 1, so I guess I can still use tunercat, as for that demo not workin for my car... that sucks... I guess ill just have to risk it and buy the full version lol
ok so we hooked up the computer to the car, and tried reading it with $EE and it says theres no connection. Im doing this with the car in the on position but not running, is that correct? $EE should be the right file shouldnt it?
just open the copy of tunercat you have in the tools dropdown option it will say "Read PCM" click on that, it will show a dialogbox that tells you what to do. I'll go check and see exactly what it said.
ok it said "Connect the PCM Interface Cable to the computer and the diagnostics connector to the vehicle. Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine NOT running)" then it has an OK button and a Cancel button, Click OK and it sould read your PCM you may have to double check that you are using the correct comm port, for that you go into the Options dropdown and go to "Comm Port Setup" click on that and see what port is available and the connection is actually hooked to. set up to the corect Comm Port and try the "Read PCM" again. If you have any more question just ask, someone else may be able to help.
Just curious, but do you have the PCM hooked to the ALDL port correctly? If you did a OBD1 swap into an OBD2 car, you will need to rewire the PCM to the ALDL to make the pinout correct for the OBD1 PCM to OBD2 ALDL port. The connection for the OBD2 PCM is MUCH different from the OBD1 PCM to the OBD2 style ALDL port. Some rewiring will probably be needed before the PC will read from the port.

yeah it has been tuned previously, maybe i just didnt do everything in the right order, or my com port was wrong, problem is i dont have a laptop so i gota drag my damn computer into the car lol.... tomora ill use my old pos w/ the 15" monitor instaed of the 21"
I downloaded the trial for datamaster and ran the cable test, it says my cables bad, but its been used before and worked, is it possible im doing something wrong? I pluged it into the computer, then the car, turned on the comp, then the car to on but not running and ran the test. Is it possible that the programs not working properly cuz im running winxp? or is the cable really shot, or could the plug into the car be broken?
YEs that is probably why. I took XP off my laptop because i could not get any of my tuning programs to work. I put win 98 on, but i still can't use the read and progam utilities in Tunercat version 1.99, i run winflash in a separate window to accomplish all my reads and writes.
BTW there was a post a while back for a windows XP patch that someone had on their webpage. Do a search and see if ya can find it.
