Question to port or not to port (MAF)

ok can someone tell me is it a good idea to port the maf , or will it give false reading to the pcm, since it is not tuned for the add'ed air , I have a ported stock maf , a gms (plastic ) maf , and just a plain ol stock one ( currently installed ) , I called ed eright in 02 he said not to use it , use the stock , but I still see alot people using them , can someone give me some input on this

I would leave it alone, zero gains IMO. Yes, caused me tuning trouble on the dyno, I found at least though that 10% increase in MAF tables "fixed" it, but I have no proof to myself that it reads linearly.

After that I got lucky and scored stock MAF ends with no sensor for only $25. I recommend against screwing with the screen or plenum on the MAF.

What Dr Mudge said....not worth the time, trouble, and headaches that could follow.

I'm running Whisper ported MAF ends. No problems here. From what I've seen, some people have problems and some don't. If you've got a selection in front of you then I say try some of them out. Atleast you'll still have the stocker to fall back on. It's not like you're going to have to make permanent cuts to a perfectly functioning stocker to find out. The kind of probs that some people here seem to report it should be obvious to you pretty soon if you've made a mistake.

I have ported mine too. I also did not feel the car was as smooth afterwards. I did however gain that back with increasing the stock MAF tables by 10%. Thanks Dr. Mudge!!

If I had it to do over I would just leave it alone, but hey live and learn, huh?

If I were in your shoes I would make a trip to the dyno and try all three to see what the actual differences were on my car. Who knows, you may have 25 hidden horsepower in there. Well, mayne not quite that much.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

I know the temptation might be strong, but don't touch it. You'll be glad you didn't.
