Please HELP!! PCM Tuning Problem

I recently bought a cable from AKMCABLES.com for a 1995 z28 Camaro. I then purchased a programming package from Bryan at PCMFORLESS.com. Today I went and tried to run the program and everytime it was trying to establish communications with the pcm I got an error that said, "Invalid Response From PCM." I was just wondering If anyone has any ideas on what this could be. I'm using a USB to Serial adapter, but I installed the drivers for it and my labtop recongizes the adapter on COM1. I'm hoping this isn't the problem because the stupid adapter was $30 from Best Buy, but who knows. Next, I tried to test my communications by using the DataMaster program I downloaded from the link AKMCABLES.com provided. After I setup the COM port I clicked "Test Com" and a message displayed saying something like this, "ALDL is working, but recieved undectable data. This PCM Type may not be recognized." I was just curious if anyone at all had any suggestions of what this could be; whether it's a problem with my PCM, my adapter, my cable or whatever else it could be. Please let me know if you have any thoughts. Thanks!

The problem is most likely your USB to serial adapter. I have heard those can be hit or miss. Can you take your desktop out to the garage, set it on a table, and try it? Might want to try that. I also believe better luck is had with a card adapter to serial port rather than USB to serial.

Thank you! I think it's the adapter as well. I have a buddy that has a labtop with a serial port on it. I'm going to try his this weekend to see what happens.

If it's only a problem with an USB adapter (test with your friend's laptop or with a desktop, like Brent said) you can buy PCMCIA serial port card from ebay (about $40ish), they do work with no problem.
