PCM reflash question ,Gurus help!!!!
PCM reflash question ,Gurus help!!!!
I have a 1997 5.7l v8 z28. The transmission was rebuiilt twice before I purchased it. The car was in limp mode stuck in third gear when i would put in drive and stay in third,it would only shift into second when I manually shifted it to 2nd.
I pulled the pan and checked for voltage at all fuses and solenoids and it was good .so i checked for open circuits on the ground(control) side of solenoids to pcm and it was good. So it led me to believe it was a pcm problem.Pcm was not grounding the solenoids .
I swaped the pcm with a1995 firebird 5.7l. It started fine and when i put in drive it came to life ,it shifted like a camaro!!! , power was restored.Tranny shifted normally. Only prob now is the check engine light is on and car takes a while to shut off ,when I remove the key.I removed the firebird pcm.
Ok I purchased a used PCM from a auto wrecker matched numbers and I installed it and still the same problem ,limp mode.I made a call to local chevy service dept.Asked about reflashing pcm and this is what he said.He said he could, but he could only install current VIN info and not re calibrate any engine and tranny data .Hummm ?I have heard other wise.
Heres my question to all camaro gurus. Is this guy right?Or is he full of ****e?Should I speak to some one else about the reflash. Any help would be greatly appreciated.......

As far as I know dealers can only flash a stock program. There are some supporting vendors on this board that can flash a custom program if that is what you want. A 97 pcm is obd II and a 95 pcm is obd I.
