PCM issue

Well my car has the dreaded lt1 hesitation off idle under a load problem (please don't tell me to search I already did and have started to research the issue) Well in the process of trying to isolate the problem I took the car to autozone to have them scan it to see if they could see any codes or issues. They at first did not want to do it because there was no check engine light on.

Well the guy took some sort of key device and started to toggle a switch under the dash of my car. He looked up to me after a few tries and said "dude I am not getting a code 12 response, I think this computer is fried" was my response to that. We want back inside and he told me the price for one of their computers and maybe i should take it to a dealer to get it scaned to see if it really is fried.

1. If the computer is "fried" how come the car still runs?
2. Would this sort of issue cause the hesitation or some sort of other failure?

The car has 73,xxx miles on it and the only thing really done to the engine is the Taylor wires I put on around the 53,xxxx mark with new plugs then too. I have not yet checked the plugs for arching.

Let me know if you need any more infomation to help diagnose this problem. The guy at autozone eve said "dude go to that Z28 site someone there should know whats up"

Re: PCM issue

You need to give the year of your car. The 93 is the only one you can flash the codes with and that sound like what the autozone guy was trying to do. The 94-95 cars require a scanner to get the codes and are obd 1. From what I understand autozone only scans obd 2 cars. My guess is you have a 94-95 car and he tried to flash the codes by shorting two pins. That won't work but it doesn't mean anything is wrong with your PCM. If your check engine light isn't on or hasn't been on you probably don't have any codes to retrieve.

LOL I thought I had my car year in my sig. Yes it is a 1994 Z28 A4. Should I still take it to a dealer and have them scan it?

If you just want to know for sure that you don't have any stored codes you can get it scanned at the dealer or an idependent shop. You could also buy a scanner if you want to spend the money. I don't think the PCM would be causing a hesitation problem.

Re: PCM issue

I did not think it was either but I thought it would be best to ask people who know more. I am thinking about getting some scaning software and the cable because I plan on getting lt1_edit or tunner cat at some point
