PCM Detection Problems (2 New PCMs) Some Comunitcation?

I lost a flash and ruined a pcm (no more comunication and the car would not start even tho it said it was a successful flash). So I got a new pcm when I installed it the car would start (stock flash on the pcm) but I could not communicate with the pcm. SO I tried another pcm. same Issue.

SO here is what I have now. I have power at the OBD port. and ground.
tunercat can read the pcm, but when i try to read or wright it says no comunication with pcm.
datmaster test passed but when i click monitor it says "no pcm sync, recycling..then it counts a bit, then says "lost COM re-connecting to ALDA"

then one time I got "the aldl adapter is working , and unknown data was recieved, this may be a unsuported pcm"

freescan sends and recieves data only when i hit force. then it stops.

this is driving me nuts. any help would be apreciated

i tried with another computer and got the same results

Maybe you have a cable or PCM/diag port wiring problem.

Using USB? or serial port?

its USB.

I checked the white w/ black wire from pin 6 to the PCM (blue connector) and it is fine. low resistance, and not touching ground at all. and I verified power at pin 16, and ground at both pin pin 4 and pin 5. Those are the only 3 needed right?

I also checked pins in my usb cable and they look fine. I checked the pins on the PCM and the blue connector and they appear fine. I guess the next step is going to to be a new USB ALDL adapter.

I ran the datamaster ALDA test and it passed the quick test and the extended test. sigh. Im lost. I guess the next step is going to be making a harness to flash it outside the car. I found out what pins to power and what to ground.

I never had my usb cable mess up when programming but it wouldn't work as well for datalogging and I bought a PCMCIA card which had two serial ports and all my problems disappeared. I don't trust USB for this kind of job.

omg this is pissing me off so much.

I made a wiring to flash on a bench. out of the car. and it does the same thing that it does in the car.

what really gets me is each pcm acts differently. the original (car wont start with this one) passes all tests and I can get all the info from freescan and datamaster but tunercats wont read it. the others wont connect in freescan or datamaster or tunercat but the car starts just fine with them!!

I ordered a new ALDL cable even tho it passes all the tests. rolls eyes. Great.

Im just going to send this a pcm to someone get them to flash it with the tune I have ready so I can at-least drive it!

could this be having anything at all to do with the fans?..

I broke the wire for the coolant temp (actually both of them) when removing radiator and timing cover last week. I re connected both, the fans dont kick on when i try to read pcm anymore. Related?

I took both the pcms i got over there and we got the same error that I was getting. For good measure I purchased a new ALDL cable and another pcm.

I had this problem.

My Fix was just a quick change with com ports.

Datamaster wanted me to use com3, it was the only option available for me.
My computer said com3 was in use, by my printer, and diverted me to com 4.
so my aldl was hooked to com4 and was easily detected. pcm not found. i changed the com for my usb adapter on a hunch. in windows with it plugged in, i changed it to com3, it warned me that it was in use, i told it to proceed.

it works great now, so let me know if this helps you at all. or if you cant figure out how to change com ports...

His PCMs were dead. They need to be rechipped.

When setting up a laptop for a serial pcmcia adapter (serial seems like the only thing that works reliably) the modem usually takes com1 so you have to disable it. If you don't you'll get a conflict because they are both using the same interrupt which allows the modem to interrupt the serial adapters communication. After disabling the modem the pcmcia serial adapter is free to take com1 and you will have no further problems. If you ever need to use the modem again just pop out the pcmcia serial adapter and enable the modem. But remember to disable it again before using the adapter.

I use a usb cable with tunercats and have never had a problem programming with it. I think there's some cheapo cables out there that bite ya in the ***. Mine was an akm cable and they've got a good rep. I would imagine its the converter adapter. My laptop is an old outdated p.o.s. too, so its not even a high speed usb port, but like I said, its never let me down yet.
