Options for ODB2 Programming
Options for ODB2 Programming
Are there any? Or am I best suited to do an ODB1 conversion. New project in the making. Have found a good deal on a 96 engine and all the trash. Budget is an issue. My first ODB1 convert i paid someone to do. Is odb2 to odb1 as easy as plugging in and ODB1 computer? I know on the 2 there are other sensors and so on. I am very comportable with all stages of fabrication so no problem on convert, would do myself this time, unless of course there is a programming option for odb2.

With the OBDI conversion, you will also need to switch to an OBDI knock sensor or have your PCM modified to work with an OBDII knock sensor. Other than that, just use a stock 95 tune to start with.

Re: Options for ODB2 Programming
I don't think you're going to get an answer on exactly when Tunercat for OBD2 is going to be released. I am also waiting for this rather then spend the money on LT1Edit. I'm going by what tjwong said and holding off for this version to be released...hopefully soon. I've been needing a program for over a year for my 230/236/LE heads and I also live in cali which makes it worse since I can't do anything about possibly programming for smog either.
Re: Options for ODB2 Programming
Here is the plan from TC:
The OBDII Tuner package will sell for $379.95. This package will include the
following:
OBDII Tuner Program on CD
OBDII/RS232 Interface
OBDII Cable
RS232 Cable
Your choice of one Vehicle Definition File
Additional Vehicle Definition Files can be purchased for $79.95 each.
The following Vehicle Definition Files are currently planned:
1996/97 LT1's
1996/97 Vortec Trucks
1997/98 LS1 Camaro/Corvette
1998 - 2000 Vortec Trucks
1999 - 2003 LS1 Cars
1999 - 2002 LS1 Trucks
2003 - 2004 LS1 Trucks
I am currently doing some beta testing on the older Vortec truck PCMs and later LS1 cars and a couple LS1 based trucks. So far so good, I had a couple bugs that TC worked out and the flash and programming platform is very stable. However I am using a offboard bench cables for programming as there were some earlier onboard com issues. So be patient, it is in the works and coming soon
I forgot to mention that the interface that you will be using will be very familiar to current TC users. It will appear very much like the old Tuner. And it will be muti-platformed like the old tuner. Except this time, you won't have to choose between which ECM or rather PCM that you are working on. Once the calibration file is read, and is opened with the tuner program it automatically chooses the correct definition file to open the calibration with. Pretty cool I thought
