Opti Dead?

This is on a 94 Z28 4L60E. The car has been having hard starting, as in acting like it has low cranking power for a few weeks, It seemed to also start smoking black a little then started missing a little too, now today I go out and it rolls over but with no fire, no spark what so ever. Over, & over,& over...The plugs are not fouled out, wires are great., I put a new coil on it but not a coil module yet. No check engine light. Is it the Opti? Is it the PCM? I also think I was having a problem with my throttle posetion sensor before this happened if that makes a difference. I still have not replaced it either. What about the Opti? Who has the best one? MSD? ACCEL? Help please!! Thanks! ..

Re: Opti Dead?

When you say "low cranking power", do you mean your battery voltage is dropping severely when you try and start the car? The PCM/sensors may become very unstable with poor system voltage.

Even though the SES light isn't on, it would be a good idea to scan it for codes. It isn't unusual for a major Opti code like DTC 16 not to turn on the SES light.

Re: Opti Dead?

Yeah it cranks hard like the battery is crap or the starter is weak. Im sure its the battery because now im cranking it with a jumper cable on and it cranks fine...Still no spark though. My brother is a Mechanic in Mississippi and he came for a visit this week and brought his $1600 Gennisis scan tool. However, We found nouthing out with it. This sucks...
