Online datalogging anaylsis!!

Ok... So I have been seeing lots of people asking others to review logs and tell what they think etc... And I'm seeing people have trouble hosting files and incorrect formats and so on...

So, being the database programmer I am, and needing a place to store my own logs, I decided to write a small web-app to do this for us...

What I have so far, is a website that will allow you to upload a (at this point, only freescan) log, it will then import the file into a MySQL Database...

The crappy thing with Datamaster is that you can output what ever fields you want, and you can't output EVERYTHING at once... So it makes it hard for me to determine what you have in your file that your uploading, so it'll prolly have to be a fixed set of fields you'd have to export, but it'll be the main ones anyways, so that shouldn't prove to be too much of an issue...

Now I need to write a simple HTML webpage to review/display the log... Then I will start putting some logic behind it to anaylsis the log, pointing out things such as high/low blm's, knock etc... I'll also work in some linking capabilities to point to sites that have information on such issues...

All in all, the hard part is done, the uploading and importing, so stay tuned in the next few weeks as i'll be looking for some people to test it out and give comments, opinions and suggestions!

I hope this will really help some people out and give others a chance to get familiar with logs.. Being able to compare their log to anothers, etc...

Either way, I look forward to having a place to review my own logs and with any luck you guys will find it useful as well!

Again, comments, suggestions, opinions are more then welcome and actually encourged, so please give feedback!

Jeff,

Thanks for stepping up to the plate on this one. I think it will only improve our little forum.

Can you give us more information on what the problem is with DataMaster? That is what I use and I know many others do also. Can't we just DL back and forth Excel spreadsheets with the data for now instead of the actual file to read with Datamaster? But you are the expert, am I being a dummy here?

I'm far from the expert... I'm just mucking my way through this too

And its not so much as there's a problem with Datamaster, but more so that when you export the data to excel format (csv, comma seperated values) you get to select which fields you want to export.

Or at least you do in the version I have, it could be an old one... I'll go download the latest now actually and verify...

But, as you can select which colums you want, you may not select all the ones that my little import program is looking for. So rather then write a bunch of code that will check each column to make sure its what is needed, I'd rather just have people export only specific fields. Namely the more important ones that are useful when reviewing

But yes, I hope it will help... I plan on going over the notes i've taken from the more technicial members on here and appling the forumals for lookups and such all online, so everyone can have a place to go if they need it.

I just need to find time to sit down and do it, hehehe
eventually...

Jeff
