ODB-II cable questions

Plain and simple question. I hope..

I wantto find a OBD-II to serial cable to plug into my laptop so I can read all 3 types (VPW, PMW and ISO).

Software seems to be plentiful, but if anyone knows of good free software out there, please let me know..

I have found some cables but they state not to plug directly into computer serial port.

Any help is appreciated..

Re: ODB-II cable questions

Hi there I just bought a cable off Ebay to read VPW protocol, but for extra cost you can specify it to read all three protocols

Here is the link to his auction, there is only a few hours to go but he always relists them:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...MakeTrack=true

I hope this helps! the guy is in China but the item arrived within a week of my purchase. pay with PayPal it will convert your Dollars in to GBP if that's what the price is. I paid £45 $76.50 which included shipping.

If you want to ask the guy a question I found him very helpful and communication was excellent after my purchase and there was free OBD2 data reding software.

Cheers Andy

Hope I understand what you want. Here's a link that might be it:

I bought the $65 cable for my laptop. Wish I would have spent the extra and gotten the molded one.

If you go to this page and follow some links, I think you'll find what's out there for software. I bought TunerCat and the EE definition file. It's a bit out of my league as I need to learn much before moving away from the hypertech plug and play.

Regards

Unfortunately this is OBD1 cables and software, not OBD2. He's looking for OBD2 (1996 and above).

I have a few OBD2 sites bookmarked, even though I haven't used any of them yet (I have Tunercat's OBD1 stuff, and it's excellent, so I'm sure their OBD2 stuff is also excellent).

Tunercat OBD2

Gore Proscan (each type of OBD2 protocol is seperate)

PCMSCAN (all protocols included)

Hope this helps.
