You still need an OBDII-style connector for the laptop cable. An OBDI converted '96 or '97 F-body ends up basically like a factory '95 F-body, OBDI PCM with an OBDII connector.

it is a lot easier to work with the obd1 setup. I can download the software very easily and it is extremely inexpensive. I will be able to do all my own reprograaming with my laptop. If you have obd2 you either have to send it off or spend big $$$$$$$ to program it yourself.

True, OBDII LT1edit sells for $450, compared to $200 for the OBDI version. But OBDI Tunercat can be bought for $90.

I have the same question. What are the true benefits of moving to OBDI other then the cost of the software? Is OBDII a problem with a H/C setup? Something like a LE2 setup?

Re: obd2 t0 obd1 conversion

Some of the tuners state that OBDI is less troublesome to work with (less codes), and usually yields a few more HP. Some people complain that the OBDII misfire detection is set off by more radical cams.

I went to OBDI for the easy/cheap availability of interface cables and software.

In some states/juristictions that require emissions testing, they will plug into an OBDII computer to check for the PCMs readiness indicators - you'd fail that test if you had OBDI in your OBDII car. This is not a concern if you have to do a sniffer test instead.

Note that some people have issues with OBDI and high-stall torque converters - obviously not a concern with us 6-speed guys.
