OBD1 vs. OBD2 tuning questions
Sorry in advance if this is kinda long, but I want to include as many details as possible
With that being said....
My car was converted by the previous owner to OBD1 with a mail-order tune from PCMforless. When I built the new motor for it, I just kept with the OBD1 and had Bryan flash in a new mail-order tune for my new combo. He did a good job, I've been running on this tune since october. However, I know that the car could really benefit from some fine tuning.
Here's where my dilema is, there is only one shop locally that has a dyno and tuning capabilities. I know and trust the shop owner/tuner, but he doesn't have tuning software for 94-95 LT1...however he does have the software for 96-97s (OBD2).
I have the original PCM that came in my car, so as far as I know all that I'd need to do is plug in my old PCM, re-install a OBD2 knock sensor, and then he could tune it.
The only problem that I see is that I have eliminated my crank position sensor. I don't even have the reluctor wheel in there anymore plus I used a 95 timing cover when I built the motor. I'm pretty sure that this wouldn't be a problem cause all that it does is detect misfires anyways....am I right?
Also, what advantages or disadvantages does OBD1 have over OBD2?
Am I making the right choice? Or should I take the car out of town to be tuned by someone that can tune OBD1?

Any suggestions? However, that still doesn't answer my question about the pro's and con's of OBD1 vs OBD2, or whether or not OBD2 is even an option for me anymore since I have no CPS
