OBD I issues on 97 LT1
Hi. Hope you can helpe.
Frist of all, sorry for my english, hope can I make me clear.
I own a 1997 LT1 Z28. A friend of mine has the Tunnercat software, but we could not program my car couse is OBD II. So I bought the OBD I conversion from pcm4less last year.
I always have problems scanning my car with Datamaster, has a lot of "Lost Conections", but has no problem reading and programing with Tunercat.
I tought it was a problem with my laptop or the cable conection, but I tried with my friend's 94 Trans Am, and the laptop and cable works fine.
So, my problem is that I cant do good reading with datamaster, and as you know, that is very important for tunning.
I get another OBD I PCM from a 95 LT1, and it has a good comunication with Datamaster on my car, but it send Code 43. I tried with my friends OBDI and is the same, It send the same DTC.
So I cant use the 95's OBDI for the code, and cant use mine (Conversion from PCM4Less) couse has a lot of comunication problems.
Any Idea what could be wrong?
Thanks.

Re: OBD I issues on 97 LT1
If memory serves me correctly. Code 43 is an ESC diagnostic. I believe there are internal mods done on the OBDI conversion PCM . I'm 99% sure that is why you see that code when trying other OBDI PCM's in your car that were not modified to be used in an OBDII equipped car.
It does sound like the communications problems are in your PCM though.

Re: OBD I issues on 97 LT1
Thanks Brian.
I installed my PCM , the original recibed by PCM4Less, on my friends 94. And it read with out comunicatios problems, "Check Engine" lights come, but no DTC codes was readed by Datamaster. So we think tha PCM is fine.
I can disable the DTC with Tunercat and the light comes out. But the question is. "Will it give me spark retard kipping that PCM with Code 43 disabled?"
Thanks again.
