OBD-1 won't scan
OBD-1 won't scan
I just bought an unmodified 94 Z-28 and the check engine light comes on as soon as I begin to move the car and also the cooling fan comes on. I tried to pull the codes and all that happens is that the cooling fan comes on, never even get a code 12. The car runs normal besides the fan staying on. The fan does shut off when I come to a stop. Any help would be appreciated!
Re: OBD-1 won't scan
On my 93 as soon as my SES light comes on the fan comes on. It ended up being the EGR system. I read in the GM service manual that certain DTC's will automatically turn on the fans. It sounds like that code only comes on at certain times. Also when i flash the codes on mine the fans cut on while you are flashing.
Re: OBD-1 won't scan
I first tried the jumping the 12 pin connector as described in my haynes book, when that didn't work I bought an actron code scanner which is supposed to work with the 1994 LT-1, that did the same thing. Thanks for the responses, keep them coming.
Re: OBD-1 won't scan
OK, this is what I was looking at: http://www.actron.com/product_detail...id=16152&id=18 Check the fuse either way, might need power to work - now I understand about the flashing - it's evidently supposed to do that, just not familiar with their product.
Re: OBD-1 won't scan
The Haynes book is wrong, the Actron info is wrong. Three people above have given you the correct answer. 1993 was the last year for shorting the pins - and that's all you get with the Actron you have, a fancy box with a switch that serves the same purpose as a 1-cent paper clip. Maybe a 4th identical response will convince you
Re: OBD-1 won't scan
Like I said, I'm new to this, I'd much rather spend the money to buy a tool that I can possibly use later then fork over $$ to my local chevy dealer for a scan. Everyone is telling me what won't work, give me a recommedation of a scan tool that will work.
Re: OBD-1 won't scan
I use the Actron CP9150 to scan my 94. It includes obd1 and obd 2 cables. This is a link to the place I bought mine.
