Thanks
If you can get it to connect, it should work regardless the software. Emphasis on should
. I've only used it with Freescan so far and connect every time with no problems.. got my tuning from Bryan, btw.

Sorry, I meant the Belkin. I ran all those tests too, the laptop and Radio Shack adapter were fine, the problem is between the adapter and the pcm. GM has some funky baud rate that the adapter didn't work with. The Belkin does fine with it though.

AutoTap also recommends:
Q. Do you have a USB version of the AutoTap OBD II scan tool?
A. No, but you can use our USB adapter to add a serial port to your laptop or PC. We have tested AutoTap with B&B Electronics models UC232A and Edgeport/1 available here.

I went thru the same disaster trying adaptors for USB-serial, PCMCIA-serial, one from Radio shak, a belkin PCMCIA adaptor, another off brand from Best Buy. NONE WORKED!! total PITA. ditch the laptop and get one with a factory serial port. sounds extreme, but if it doesn't work....
my problem was communicating with the PCM using LT1 edit. I went thru all the com port matching between edit and the device, deleted other drivers not in use, downloaded the newest drivers, ect. Compaq has a very inexpensive unit new for $700 with the serial port. Don't buy a new dell assuming that a $40 adaptor will get you going. I've read of many others who have had similar bad experiences, some say their's worked great first try. My advice is to shop wisely for new or used laptops if you are going to be using Edit, get one with a serial port.
