No MAF? Good or bad?

A buddy of mine, with a Caprice, was telling me on how he runs his car on air density, instead of using his MAF. Seeing how his MAF was considerably smaller than mine, I can see an advantage for him. I have been thinking about changing mine to that as well... any disadvantages to this? The way I see it, why not, just leaves one less thing to go bad on my car.

I ran that for a long time....it really ate up alot of gas. I wouldn't recommend it for anything under 450 h.p. on the street

Engine management with the MAF will be more precise for more driving conditions than with speed density. That's why they went to it. The MAF rarely goes bad, so I would not consider that a goood reason to get rid of it.
