no communication during scan

Ive hooked up a snap on scanner i can enter in vin information it says trying to communicate it ends up failing. not sure what fuse to check if that may be the problem. Im not really sure where to start looking for problems. I looked to see if the wires were connected to the port everything looks normal there.

Re: no communication during scan

Does the scanner require 12V power? If so, you need an external source, because there is no 12V pin in the OBD-I ALDL connector.

What is the brand and model of the scanner?
