New to the PCM Game......How to flash for a different transmission.
Tech Motorheads:
I am getting ready to swap the auto tranny in my 1998 z28 to a T56. The mechanical and wiring are pretty much figured out. I am considering getting my own software to flash an associated programming for the change.
I started doing some research into hP Tuners and EFI Live to complete the task, but how does this work with Licenses etc? Do I buy the software with a sinlge license and get unlimited qty of tunes for my car? How do I obtain a stock 1998 LS1 Tune with all my options(traction control, the new manual tranny etc.)?
If I decide to upgrade the engine later, or rebuild to give it a new lease on life, do I have to purchase another license to further enhance tuning?
Can someone give me a quick lowdown on the basics of this process?
Thanks Gents.

In my LT1 Edit you can read as many pcms as you want but you need a license to load a tune.
The license gets sort of VIN locked to your pcm.
If you had another pcm with the same VIN it would not work and you would need another license.
If you change the engine as long as you use the same pcm it will work.
