Need help socketing & programing pcm.
Can someone tell me step by step how to socket my PCM? Specifically, once the PCM is open which is the chip to desolder and is there only one or are there two. I noticed one in there that has FLASH written on it, I'm guessing thats it but would like to know for sure.
Also where do you by new chips from, I read on another post that you could not buy chips; but, if that is the case what would be the point of socketing the PCM in the first place.
Lastly once you have a pocket programer what are the steps to FLASH the PCM? My understanding is that you plug the pocket programer into your laptop via the printer port. What do you do from there, Do you install a program into the lap top to make it work...?

If you've never done a surface mount socket before, I would personally not attempt this on your own PCM.
Either way, I sell chips, repair and socket PCMs. You can check out my website at www.madz28.com/repair.php
To socket, you will need 2 PLCC32 surface mount sockets and some thin solder and also a fine tip. I recommend removing the old chip using a heat gun.
Also, the old chips are reusable/reprogrammable most of the time... just something to keep in mind.
The chips are the Intel AN28F512 chips with "FLASH" written on them. There is one on each of the boards.
If you have a pocket programmer, you will also need the PLCC32 adapter (about $70 if I remember correctly) and some usable BIN files to load on the chips. I can provide those if you need them.
Once you solder the chips back in place, or install them in the sockets, you will just need to reflash the PCM with a fresh tune. That's all.

I bought the pocket programmer II, and there is no way my chip will fit into this thing.
Now I saw this thread about an adapter, PLCC32 adapter , is this what I need? I need to know before I begin frying pcms again.
I'm also about to start programming my 93 chevy truck, and I need an ultraviolet light sorce to erase my chip. Where to get one and how much?
Thanks
D Moss
