Arrow Neat/creative programming idea; can't get LT1_Edit or Tunercat to do it, any ideas?

This is for LT1 folks who have removed their AIR pump AND have an electric waterpump.

You can use the AIR pump wiring harness to power the water pump, but have to do some wiring to power the AIR relay when the car comes on.

I had an idea to take this a set further. Simply re-program the AIR pump circuit to be on whenever the car is on. Then all you would have to do is install the pump, splice into the air pump harness, and swap fuses. Clean, simple, reliable, and easy. By doing this, if the AIR fuse ever blew, it would also trip an SES light....nice little extra that would tell you the electric water pump isn't running.

The problem: no where in OBD-I LT1_Edit or Tunercat can I find a function to adjust how long the AIR pump stays on. Rather I can only find the function to turn it off. So, is there any way to reprogram for this?? IMO, it's a cool idea, and you could make an electric waterpump install look almost 100% factory.

Good thoughts Joe!

When I installed my electric wp I still had the air pump and hadn't considered removing it. I used the TCS relay spot (I don't have TCS) in the underhood box to wire in a relay for the wp. It looks nice and factory, which is what I was after.

Anyway, I've since removed the air pump but I kept the relay there....it's a spare in case my wp one ever goes. I like your idea of the airpump wiring/SES light. I haven't looked in Tunercat for the ability to tweak airpump time, but I'll take a look.

Joe,
it's a great idea indeed, but you will not be able to make it work with what we have available right now. If Ken Kelly (lt1_edit) or TC (tunercat) would have some incentive to do this, I bet they could make it work.

I like this idea as well, too bad we don't have the ability to do it right now with LT1Edit or TC. Perhaps there would be some way to rewire the air pump setup to force it to stay on the entire time? Trick it somehow into believing that the car has just be started despite the fact that it has been running for longer than what the PCM knows to be the time to shut off the air pump? Time to dig up the wiring schematics again and see what can be done.

Yes, but how would that be different from just using a regular relay? Just for the SES light?

There is a way if you want to do the re-wiring: http://stevil.easy48.com/AIR-CSI.htm

That's my buddy stevil's setup.

His wiring idea kinda gave me this programming idea. To bad neither TC or LT1_Edit can do it. Anyone have any connection to perhaps nudge these people into doing an upgrade to their programs??

I thought about using the skip shift circuit. You can modify when it is active via Tunercat. Like when the car is running but off when the car is off. I never got around to doing it that way. I just made a new circuit with a switch and leds.
