MSD box braking up logging?
MSD box braking up logging?
Has anyone ever had a MSD box (6al) break up or interrupt logging capabilty? While dynoing, We tried to log some runs and had no luck. It was breaking up. I ended up diconnecting the box and had no problems. I think it's just a bad box. Car logs fine with no box.
just wondering

Re: MSD box braking up logging?
One thing I do know, is that when you are flashing your PCM with something like Tunercat or LT1_edit, it is recommended that you disconnect the MSD box during the process. I assume that someone found some issues at one time or another. Not sure if this is limited to just the MSD or any aftermarket ignition box.
Re: MSD box braking up logging?
Pulling up an old thread here, but I too am having data errors with the msd box (6a) connected and no errors with it bypassed.
Wiring is all healthy.
It used to log just fine ?
Could a coil do this ?
Mine has about 30,000 miles on it.

Re: MSD box braking up logging?
I can't tell you the number of times I've seen an MSD box get really noisy (electronically speaking) before it dies. Sometimes it has been bad enough to interfere with the data acq systems on the dyno.
A new ignition box almost always fixes those type of RFI problems when they seem to suddenly appear out of nowhere.

Re: MSD box braking up logging?
What is the reason for using an MSD box on an LT1? Aside from retarding boost timing or nitrous timing, I see absolutely no reason to put one on. They will create noise and they will, in my opinion, kill your opti slowly due to the high voltage output.
