I'm new to it, too. I printed off the info on Carputing's website and have been reading and re-reading it. It doesn't seem too bad. Of course the hardest thing is going to be fuel and timing, but that shouldn't be too hard if you have access to a wideband.

I hope one of the pros speaks up in here.

If you're doing it for the first time, it is best to read everything you can, or you won't understand what each table does/means. Start with Dan K's ECM constants which are stickied at the top of the page. Then, move onto Injuneer's Scanmaster explanations. Another place that can help is this:

Familarize yourself with everything first and then start tuning. A wideband is almost a must.

Re: New To tuning?

Id like to know what the names of some of the tables are in tunercat.
I always forget which are PE mode, which are used in just open loop. Anyone have a quick write up for those?

When you say wideband band you mean wideband 02 senor right. Is there some type of special equipment needed? I was thinking about purchasing a wideband AEM unit to install in the car. would that help, or is this different.

Re: New To tuning?

For now, the wideband O2 with the gauge is about the only way to get a/f right. Buttercup has designed a program that he is awaiting testing on where you wouldn't even need the gauge, just the wideband O2 and wires. If you have the gauge, you would need someone to drive the car so that you could see where it is lean/rich. Then, make the changes accordingly.
