mem-cal number help
mem-cal number help
Here we go........
1. I own a 1991 Chevy corvette.
2. It runs and performs like ****...
3. I have a scan tool that would not communicate with the stock mem-cal in the car. The check engine light would flash when jumpered from terminals. I forgot the codes, i'll get them.
4. I went to the junk yard, and got a spare PCM (same part #, 227 I think) out of a Camaro, tuned port engine. TC at tunercat said this one would work.
5. Put the camaro PCM housing with the stock vette mem-cal in the vette, same problems. Timming off, a/c compressor would not respond, Fans doing some funky stuff (commng on with the iginition key, when the car is cold...perfect indication of fried PCM in my 95 camaro), no communication with my scan tool, speedo would very seldom read, "SYS" flashing on the tach, and the tach is showing about twice the RPM's that the engine is actually running, fuel loading up tremediously, ......
6. I took the vette mem-cal out, put the camaro mem-cal in, and the PCM started communication with my scan tool. The car would run, but it still was showing out, tach showing 2 times the RPMS, timing wrong, speedo still out, fans were off though.
7. I already owned the pocket programmer 2 from transtronics, so now I ordered the piggy back system for the chip from Craig Moates. ($55 with 2 chips)
8. Contacted TC, and he hooked me up with the definition file for tunercat.
9. I've gotten all my stuff in, and now I'm ready to read the stock bin file off of my chip, but the numbers on the chip in the stock mem-cal is not matching any numbers in the eprom chip selection screen on my pocket programmer 2 software.
#'s on chip is:
silver sticker has.......
Delco
R665
R665
Below that.....the numbers on the chip is
014
045915
AD9050B
There's a number engraved in the brown plastic (lower half of the mem-cal, what the blue plastic cover clips on) that reads 68767. The eprom list in PP2 has a 68766, but it this the same.
I thought that the chip had it's number on the chip itself. If someone can help me, I need it.
A stock bin file would be great also.
Thanks

Re: mem-cal number help
David,
On the cover of the ECM there should be a sticker that shows the broadcast code of the Memcal. The brodcast code is GM's slang for the binary file downloaded to the Eprom on the Memcal. Broadcast codes are 4 letter characters like ARAP or ADJU, or something like that. One you get he broad cast code go to Moates web site and you'll probably find a stock binary file already on the FTP site.
I believe your ECM takes a 27C256 Eprom so you will set your pocket programmer to that for reading a writing
Hoead over to Thirdgen.org and read the volumes of fantastic info on prom reading and burning. It'll help a lot.
