mass air flow circuit low?

It keeps throwing the code. I've reset the pcm and erased the ses light but it returns the next time i start the car. I've been told it was the maf sensor so i found another but it does the same thing. In fact I changed them out and reset the pcm and it killed my milage. I average 16-18 in town and it knocked down to probably 12. I forgot the code number but it reports "mass air flow circuit low." Is it just the signal going to the sensor? How do I fix this? Thanks

Sounds like P0102 - look up the diagnostics at www.gearchatter.com

yes, that was the code. I read the article on it but it's so far over my head. I can check a couple things but I don't understand how it just happened. It's been on there for a few months and I can't figure it out and can't really find any help on it but here so i appreciate anything!

Re: mass air flow circuit low?

A code P0102 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
  • The MAF may be disconnected, or a wiring connection may be bad
  • The MAF may be dirty or otherwise contaminated (if you use an oiled air filter such as a K&N air filter, some of the oil may have made it's way onto the MAF sensor).
  • The MAF sensor may be faulty
  • The vehicle computer may be faulty (very rare)
The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back. Then start with the cheapest, easiest repair procedures:
  • Verify that the Mass Air Flow Sensor wiring is connected properly and that there are no broken / frayed wires.
  • Inspect for any air leaks near the MAF sensor.
  • Take the MAF out and clean it using a spray cleaner such as brake cleaner or electrical contact cleaner. Be gentle with the sensor.
  • Check the voltage of the MAF sensor (refer to a repair manual for vehicle specific information)
  • Replace the MAF sensor.

(First hit I got on google for P0102. I'm sure there's lot's more out there.)

Re: mass air flow circuit low?

thanks for the help! hopefully I can get something to work. I just cleaned it and checked the wiring and it all was good. The next thing is to check the voltage.
