Maf translator and gms conficts..???

I have a maft translator and gms maf.The car is near stock,96 z28.Magnaflow catback,airfoil,ile bellows,cold air,no egr ,no air pump,tb bypass,160 stat,hpp tuning out.Maft,3.42 gears ,a4.

Anyway it seems that I can lean out the car like 7 clicks down on wot and still don't get any knock at all.I am wondering if the maft will even work with the gms maf.I can try playing with the base I guess but woudn't have thought the car needed to go this lean with my simple mods. Also today in time runs my mph seems to be the same with it set from 4 to 7 clicks down at wot.I would have thought it would have changed and got higher or lower or something. Are these two pieces incompatible.I will be trying to throw stock maf back on for further testing. Also have autotap but can't seem to get my old dos version of the my program 2.10 I think i have to work and they don't seem to have any dos support anymore on the autotap site.Did they have any dos programs past 2.10.Anyone have one on file somewhere?

Also what version of windows can I download that won't cost me extra.Might try that.

I do have a hypertech powerscan cartridge but it seems to read .100 low on 02s.I had one long time ago on my 97 ta and found that unit with powerscan also read .100 low for o2 s compared to scanmaster or autotap.

The HPP scan cartridge was terrible on O2's. Not reliable at all.

Why are you using "knock" as the measure of success for the "tuning"?

Between the Granatelli MAF and the MAFT you've invested about $600 in "bandaids".... the same amount spent on tuning software would have let you set the PE mode target A/F ratio exactly where it needs to be to produce max HP.

Have you checked the AutoTap website to see if they will let you download the current upgrades?

Re: Maf translator and gms conficts..???

I just downloaded the newest version of win 2.05 for my autotap.I have had problem with my autotap working for a few minutes and then losing connection to the car.It seems to not be hardware related but I could be wrong.

I have obd 2 on the 96 still.I have had the maf transtor plus forever.I got the gms maf used off the board.I have a gms maf on my 99 ta and was using the translator with that with my ls1 scanmaster. That seemed to work fine..set the o2 pretty much as lean as possible with no or very minimal knock.I know its old fashioned compared to hardcore tuning programs like ls1 edit ot lt1 edit or tunercat but though those only work on obd1 ecms although obd1 ecms are pretty cheap off the boards.

I also have had autotap forever.I plan on getting a wideband 02 meter but both my 99 and 96 currently have cats so guess would need to drill bung hole not sure its still any good reading them at tailpipe with cats in front of there.

I remember that the powerscan o2 readings are crap like you said. They seem to read at least 100 mv low.

So guess mess around a bit longer.I am not hardcore enough on the lt1 to
spend big bucks on tuning and changing out ecms. The car is not really running that bad..just turned a 14.3 at 95mph which isn't bad considering my few mods, cars race weight of 3775..60ft of 2.18. and altitude of track of 1900ft and good headwind. Its a vert also so is heavier of course than plain z28.

I guess if can get my autotap working that is first step. Then at least the 02 although narrowband will be at least reading what they usually do.And what is wrong with monitoring knock. For a long time though you just leaned things out until you starting getting knock and then richened it up just enough to stop it and you would be pretty close. At least with cruder simpler things like maft.

Anyway maybe the program keeps shutting off as didn't put in registration or something although don't think it asked me for it.I am original autotap owner.

You can get LT1_Edit for both OBD-I and OBD-II. The OBD-II version is a little pricey at $550. But you can do so much with it, its not a bad investment.
