Laptop Based Tuning for LT1s

I am looking to pick up an LT1 F-body (i had an obd1 f body years ago) and I had a couple of questions about tuning. i am looking to do my own tuning with a laptop.

What programs are out there for OBD 1 and/or OBD 2 LT1 Tuning?

Pros and Cons know for the program? (does it have data logging?)

Can you get a free trial version of the program to be able to evaluate it?

LT1's require a tuning & datalogging program there is no all in one like with LS1 cars. You have your choice of LT1edit and Tunercats for tuning and for datalogging you have datamaster, mxscan, freescan, and a few others i believe. I use tunercat and datamsater and I'm very pleased with both of them. Tunercat seems to have more tables and isn't VIN lokced like LT1edit. It is also alot cheaper. You can't try any tuning programs for free but you can try datamaster free. Also freescan is free as well. Datamaster has a better layout and give you transmission data unlike freescan.

LT1 Edit has a datalogging feature that you can purchase.

Also, the lt1edit datalogger along with the others mentioned (freescan, datamaster, etc) are only for obd1. For obd2 autotap with enhanced GM parameters is the only really good option.

maybe a "sticky" using this???

I'm just starting to think about datalogging and editing my PCM.

I needed to know:
1) What hardware (h/w) I needed
2) What logging software (s/w) I needed
3) What editing s/w I needed.

This thread spells it out for a noob (me!!).

Anyway, making it a sticky could be useful for "the next guy"..

Thx for the info

you cant tune a 93 with a laptop you have to have chip burned for it. i had the same problem so i got a 94 pcm amd complet wiring harness and am in the middle of putting it in my car so i can have my pcm flashed and not have to have a chip burned.

actually 93's are fun to tune if you pick up a moates ostrich emulator,, you can do actual real time tuning making instant changes to your tune while the engine is still running

it cuts your tuning time way down and can be left in your car or take your saved final tune and burn it to your original prom(if you have a prom burner/eraser)

i would recomend the ostrich to anyone tuning a ecm with prom, the time saved is unreal
