Knock Module Needed

I'm going OBD1 and my ECM come out of a Road Master.
I need a Knock Sensor Module # 16177700.

I called the dealer and it is discontinued.
The LT4 is still available but I read some where, maybe on here
that it's not the best choice.

But if the tide has changed and the LT4 is ok I'll by it.

Where are you guys getting them?

Chris

My car is a 96 LT1 T/A.
The OBD1 PCM is out of a 94 Buick Road Master with a 5.7 LT1.
The PCM# is 16188051
The KM that's in the PCM now is #16188309

With al the people that have swapped to LT4 KMs, there might be someone that would give you their old normal KM (16177700). Try the parts wanted forum.

You don't need to change the knock module.

You do need to change the knock sensor.

My KM # is 16188309 PCM# 16188051 94 Road Master.

What part# knock sensor do I need?

It is my understanding that the Raod Master had 2 KS's

Re: Knock Module Needed

Since you will be using a '94-'94 OBD1 LT1 PCM p/n 1618805 and code you should have a LT1 knock sensor in the passenger side block drain hole and no or unused harness connection to the second knock sensor. Here is some info and a p/n ref shoebox site.. http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#knock_sensor

Re: Knock Module Needed

He explains that the 94/95 OBD1 uses a knock sensor
with a certain resistant’s value and the 96/97 OBD2
knock sensor uses another resistant’s value.

So I should ignore the fact that my PCM come from a
Road Master and it used 2 knock sensors and just install
a single 94/95 knock sensor and that will work?

Re: Knock Module Needed

Your knock sensor and the PCM code have to match, your engine is a '96 LT1, if you are converting to a 1618805 ODB1 PCM. The actual code in the PCM determines how many and what knock sensor(s) should be used. If you have a '96 A4 tranny then you need '95 F-Body A4 PCM code to support the PWM solenoid and you will need one '94-'95 LT1 knock sensor to replace your '96 KS. If you have a M6 then '94 or '95 F-Body M6 code will work and you will still need the '94-'95 knock sensor. The RoadMaster PCM code should not be used on the F-body.

Re: Knock Module Needed

When you say "code" is this another word the tune that's in the PCM?

Re: Knock Module Needed

Why not do the resistor mod instead?

Re: Knock Module Needed

I may do that.
If this is done to the OBD1 PCM so you can run the OBD2 KS and switch back to OBD2
with out changing KS back that's cool.

I'm nuts and bolts kind of guy.
I would just tap the block and put the OBD1 KS next to the OBD2 and swap the plug
to swap PCM's
