just ordered tuner cat. any advice?

I have a mail order program in my car for quite awhile. but I am going to spend some time on the dyno this week and do some programming. I have no idea what that hell i am doing. A friend of mine does all the tunning at a local shop and will be helping but they only do ls1/6 tuning and use ls1 edit. My guess and tell me if I am wrong the idea is the same just a diffrent interface? any body have any advice/hits/tips?

In order to tune effectively, you first must be able to data log. Also, you should complete the part throotle tuning on the street before going to a dyno. Part throotle tuning is usually meant to get the BLM values in the 16 fuel trim cells (FTC 0 thru 15)close to 128,, 122 to 134 is very good. You can adjust the MAP table and the fuel injector constant to get the BLMs between 122 and 134.

So, first of all, figure out what engine parameters you should data log to complete the part throotle tuning. Parameters, such as, TPS voltage, MAP, timing, FTC#, BLM, engine RPM, are the minimum to start with.

Tip: A BLM value above 128 means that the ECM is adding fuel above that calculated by the fuel equation. Conversely, a BLM value below 128 means that the ECM is taking fuel away from that calculated by the ECM.

Also, when you get on the dyno, make sure that you can use your data logger during the pulls. Here, make sure you data log the O2s, so that you can get a correlation between your narrow band O2 and the dynos wide band O2 meter.

BTW: you are correct about these various tuning software,, the better ones allow you to change values in many many tables. Usually, you will change a hand full of tables to greatly effect the running of your car. These various tuning packages have slightly different titles for each table, but for the most part, it is obvious. LS1Edit works similar to TunerCat, I have both and have used both extensively.
