....just erased my pcm and then the .... cable failed

ok first off i went into the garage and read my pcm with tuner cats and then came inside to work on the tune. well after working on it some and getting it where i wanted it i went back outside and proceded to load the tune. well it erased the pcm memory and then a error came up saying that the connection to the ecm was lost. it then tryed reconnecting and then when that failed it tryed to reprogram the tune and that failed as well. now if i try and load a stock tune i have on the comp it says that it cant communicate with the pcm. the cable is hooked up right and the connections are good. is there a reason why this happened?

can it be fixed? or do i have to buy a new pcm?

btw i have the moats cable

You're probably screwed. You don't have to buy a new one, you can have that one repaired, I forget the place that does that.

Hope this doesn't happen to me. So far I have close to 10 successful writes, also with that cable.

The moates cable is a direct usb cable, no serial.

I had this happen one time. Whayt I did first was take out the pcm fuse and let it set for a little while. Plugged the fuse back in and it took a little while for it to crank but it started. Try it, it wont hurt none.

It's not a cable problem, the PCM is fried so it just won't connect.

what caused it to fry?

It lost connection for whatever reason in the middle of uploading.

Imagine backing up your hard drive onto a CD. If your computer shuts off in the middle of burning the CD then it will stop right there and not correctly "end" the CD. This is what to your PCM.

Make sure you have the most recent Tunercat update. I have had this happen before too where it lost connection right after it erased the old memory. Try not to upload the file from a floppy disk but off the hard disk and try a different computer next time.

AKM cables will remove the chips and put a connector on the board and reflash chips for you. Not cheap but it isn't an easy task. I had one done for my setup. I am develping a board to collect data at a faster rate and KNOW I will lock it up so bit the bullet on one that was locked up.

AKM is the only one I would trust to do the task.

Good luck

I don't think AKM does this any more. Pretty sure MadZ does, though.

Try taking power off the PCM for a while like MEAN LT1 said.

That's an excellent analogy... the first time I've seen it described this way!

Maybe, but then it can happen again.

If you don't want to socket, then Ion will fix it for $40. Socketing is $60.
