"Invalid Response from PCM"

I can read from datamaster, and free scan but when it comes to the read function in tunercat I just end up in with "Invalid Response from PCM".

Facts:
I've done a search <http://web.camaross.com/forums/search.php?searchid=934049> - no answers
Gateway Laptop, 2ghz p4
akmcable.com's cable
serial connection
car on charger and charged
tunnercat software 2.10

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: "Invalid Response from PCM"

I get this all the time, there's really no one solution to it.

I do one of two things and it always works eventually.

1. just try it again immediately (sometimes takes 3 or 4 tries)
2. turn the key to off for at least minute, then back to on, wait about 30 sec-1min, repeat 1

Sometimes I've had to vary the amount of time to leave it off and to leave it on before attempting to read.

How would you program the car if it takes a half dozen times to just read it?

Anyone Else?

Thx

Zack

Same way. I get that sometimes when I try to program too. Usually takes 2 or 3 tries but it always works eventually. I've tried different ports, settings, etc. but it always still does that occasionally. I don't know if its the same way for everyone or if it works all the time for some.

Re: "Invalid Response from PCM"

Try turning the key on and waiting for all the lights to settle in the cluster before you start to read... probably a 15 sec wait.

Try things like disabling the infrared devices and anything else that uses a comm port. If all else fails then borrow a laptop from a friend and give it a try. Truth is some laptops just DONT work for whatever reason. My dads 2002 Dell lappy wouldnt work but a friends Dell lappy would, Sony lappy wouldnt work, 1998 Dell lappy wouldnt work(but Datamaster did), old 1998ish Toshiba worked, 1999 Dell desktop Im on now worked, friends T20 IBM lappy works great and so does my current 600E lappy. Its a crap shoot.

No. That message means it could not negotiate a connection with the pcm for some reason. It always happens at the exact same place for me. It's when the first progress meter gets about 1/3 of the way done.

It takes me a few tries but once it gets past that point and actually connects it works just fine.
