invalid com port specified
invalid com port specified
...that's what the computer says when i try to read the pcm. it's a laptop with win 98. infrared is off. serial com port is port #1...which is what i use. i disabled all the other ports to narrow it down. i even got hyper-whatcha-ma-call-it. it communicates, cause i can see what i type on the screen. i turned local echo off.
WHAT am i supposed to do? the thing still says "invalid com port specified???"

Well, I'm sure you're probably not the only person who has had this problem, I'm betting that its a simple thing your just forgetting. If your serial port is COM1, would you happen to have your modem on COM1? If so, COM1 is already taken and it will not work. And if you have disabled the other ports, you can select any other open port either. Check your modem (assuming you have one, if not, see below) and if it is on COM1, then that's your problem. Reenable all your COM ports and select either COM2 or COM3 for your RS232 serial port. If you do not have a modem, check to see if you disabled the port your serial port was on. Many times, especially on older systems, COM1 is reserved for modems and COM2 or COM3 was used for the RS232 serial port. If this isn't the problem either, the only other answer is you have a bad serial port or a bad cable. If your hyperterminal says everything is ok, check the cable.
hey, not sure if you got it fixed. But, everytime I use mine I have to switch the edit setting to com port 2. Hope this helps. It always works after that, I just have to switch it everytime I use it.
