Im an idiot, Bricked PCM
Im an idiot, Bricked PCM
Well title explains atleast half of it. Calling scrap yards today so that i can purchase 2 of these bad mother humpers. But anyway I got curious this morning and was wondering if anyone ever came across a program to fix these? For the most part I know I would have to have a new chip put in.
On a good side note. Found a guy yesterday who is parting out a 95 corvette, still has the engine and pcm. The pictures he sent me looks like an lt4 car, but i know alot of guys paint the intkes red. didnt pay much attention to how high the intake sat. anyway, this may have ended up costing me more because if its an LT4, im gonna be buying an engine to with my used pcm lol

Outfits like PCM Calibrators charge $75 to repair a bricked PCM. Just an example, I have never dealt with them.

The LT4 engine was only available in the 1996 Corvette. Here are some of the key casting numbers, like heads and intake:

On the intake manifold, everything external is physically the same except the height of the intake runners. The key in that area would be the valve cover support lip on the head, which is significantly thinner on the LT4 head, to allow for the taller intake runner. The differences are subtle. The is a cross-section comparable of the two heads in the above link where you can see the difference.

Re: Im an idiot, Bricked PCM
Here is a "how to" that I came across a few years ago and had saved. After looking at all the steps, $75 to PCM Calibrators looks like a bargain to me.

Re: Im an idiot, Bricked PCM
my aldl cable had a short in it somewhere. So as I’m looking at it, it throws an error. Tried flashhack and it couldn’t finish it.
So what I did was get a new cable, and new pcm. Autozone remanufactured was only 100 bucks. Car is back to running. And now I always play with the cord a little before I start reprogramming.
