I Love Tunercat
I Love Tunercat

Just had to get that out. For the second time this year, my radiator fans have quit on me (same fans, fixed the first time by disconnecting the batt.). This time there was no apparent easy fix. So I figured I'd put the 95 PCM in a little early and read the PCM which would trip the fans. If it didnt, then the problem would be the fans themselves. But sure enough, both of 'em fired on while the PCM was being read. So...hrm...why not just leave it in there and go easy on 'er until Sat when I can install the 95 knock sensor...start it up!
Needless to say, I've spent the last 4 hours logging runs w/ FreeScan and turning off things like EGR, AIR, CAGS (CARS), Knock sensor diagnostics (until the new one goes in), bump idle and rev limit, 255mph governor, lower fan temps, etc etc.
Unfortunately my left O2 is crapping out on me now so I can't get into the real tuning, but I have done enough homework/research to get my hands dirty when the time comes.
Oh the joys of tinkering

I haven't used LT1_Edit first hand, and honestly I cant see a reason to, having used TunerCat. Half the price, no vehicle VIN restrictions, and the PCM files can be converted between the two so you're never 'stuck' with just one file type. LT1_Edit does seem to be a little more GUI-friendly by comparison. You can look at the two at their creators' websites; tunercat.com and carputing.com (and a HOWTO at lt1.net/editor). I hear TunerCat is moving forward on development and will get even better...
Dave, I have Tunercat and I've never really played with it much but where did you go to change the idle and where do you change the fan settings. Excuse me here, I'm kind of ignorant when it comes to the tuning. I just know how to flash and read the PCM. I have been a little nervous to try and change much of anything.

The idle is changed 2 places for you A4 guys. One table is 'IAC Target RPM vs. Coolant Temp (Park/Neu)' and the other is 'IAC Target RPM vs. Coolant Temp (Drive)'. Obviously one is for in gear, the other is out of gear.
The fan enable temps are in ECM CONSTANTS TABLE, about 1/2 way down I believe (dont have TunerCat on this machine).

Tunercat rocks! I find its interface to be straight forward, and way easier than LT1 edit. Anyone who hasn’t tried Tunercat should.
Another nice thing about Tunercat is that you can tune more than LT1 cars. All you need is a definition file, and there only like $20. I’m not too sure if that’s possible with LT1 edit.
Just wanted to share my two cents

I need some help with my program. I have Tunercat and can't get it to work at all. I have the file for the LT-1 and have registered. I must be missing something to get it to run. I can't run a new program.
Thanks,
Chris

I have contacted them via E-mail and asked for a phone number that I can call to talk to somebody. I send the E-mail from work and the car and computer is at home. It is very hard to get any thing done when I have to go home to try what they say.
