Hypertech Programmer Issues

I was programming my 98 LS1 when my battery started to die. I lost communications at 73%, and now get a error code 6 on the programmer. The programmer was bought on ebay used and now my car will not start.

Looking for some ideas to at least get the car running.

Damn, try disconnecting the programmer and then the battery. Fully charge it and try and try to resume programming. Was the stock tune already downloaded? If so I'd also try reinstalling the stock tune. Don't know what code 6 means.

It was stock and I was trying to upload some mods like speed limiter, shift firmness, etc... I should have pulled the fuse for the headlamps prior to starting. Had no idea it would take 20-30 minutes to upload.

I will try that - Thanks.

I am guessing the programmer should have worked, cause I did not get a VIN mismatch once communications were established the first time.

Yeah, if it was VIN locked it wouldn't work at all. I had one years ago, they do take FOREVER to make changes. No need to remove the headlamps fuse, just pull up on the emergency brake to keep them off before turning the key on. Thinking I posted once before suggesting the same thing and it resumed programming...can't find the link though. Hopefully it'll resume programming and you'll be OK.

Unhappy

Well, recharged battery and reconnected to car. Still not communicating to vehicle. Any idea what fuse powers the chip? Maybe I blew that fuse, because the car will not fire when turning over. My next thought is to grab the ohm meter and start checking fuses. Thanks.

I hate to tell you this, but there's a really good chance your PCM is dead. The PCM cannot run with a partially flashed program, although the 99+ LS1 PCMs are capable of being recovered via programming if this happens.

I had the same thing happen on my LS1 Camaro, and I needed to replace the PCM. I was able to fix it later by manually reflashing the chip.

I *might* be able to fix it for you. PM me if you want to discuss.
