Hypertech "cartridge required"..?
Hypertech "cartridge required"..?
So I asked for it. Bought a HPP for next to nothing after the guy promised me that it worked just fine. He actually send me some text pics of the screen and it hooked up to his car so I thought that it was on the up.
So I got it today, plugged it in and as soon as it started to power up and go through its self tests, it tells me programming interrupted....install "cartridge 9F3A"...i'm thinking WTF!!!!
So i unplugged it, repowered up and again, after a self test it says "cartridge 5155" this time.
Somebody shed some light if you could.
I already emailed Hypertech but prolly won't hear from them till monday or tuesday i'm guessing.
I just wanted to use it to change my tiresize and gear set......dammit!!!!!
Yeah I know..,

I've never heard of it. Mine had everything there. I saw one that you could install a cartridge for a supercharged car but I think it was just an add on and didn't need to be there to work. What is the exact type you bought?
The OBD-II Hypertechs had a slot for a "custom tune" cartridge. Sounds like its looking for the cartridge that was used to tune the previous owner's PCM. It might need that to swap the stock tune back into the PCM, which is what "unlocks" the Hypertech.
I've never seen anyone with a problem with the "cartridge", so I don't think its unusual that you had 21 views with not response.
I sent you a PM with the answer to your question about unlocking it.

It's an older model 365652...96 M6 LT1/4 car which is what mine is. He had told me that he took the program out and returned it to stock. But you know how that might go.
The guy was actually really cool about it. As of this am he paypalled me the money I paid for him and said that he didnt feel right about selling something that wasn't what I paid for. I thought it was a nice geture and told him that if I got it going I'd repay him.
More than anything, Id like to have it just so I can easily swap tire sizes and gearsets.
Thanks for the input guys and the direction Inj,
Ivan
What the hell is a scan cartridge??? Use as a scan tool as well???
I've googled cartridge and 5155 and 9a3f and all kinds of crap.
BTW-Hypertech was a bunch of bitches as far as trying to help me out. I went as far as to say I'd pay if they could help me out. They told me to throw it away as the programming was outdated....wtf!!! Who determines this info?? I will never buy a new nor used Hypertech again based on their lack of cooperation to help me out. Reguardless of whether it was new or used.
So what the heck should I do? Haven't heard from anyone PM or email or here as to what I should do....should I toss it and consider it a lesson learned???
Thanks again,
Ivan

Yes, there was cartridge that turned the Hypertech into an OBD-II scanner. But it seemed to be plagued by problems with very low O2 sensor readings that made no sense at all. Hypertech stuff, at least for the LT1's never impressed me. Interesting to note that the same person was involved with the development of the LT1 HPP, the Electromotive Opti-Eliminator, and the Delteq ignition system.
Was the source I gave you able to help, are had he never heard of the "install cartridge" message?
