HP tuners MPVI cable?? LT1?

Ive got a 1997 SS, with a OBD1 swap done to it. Ive seen the cables needed to datalog and scan, but was wondering if there was a difference between that cable and this HP tuners MPVI unit.

Its the 16 pin plug with a serial end, plugs into the HP tuners box, and then has a usb out the other end into the PC.

I borrowed it from a buddy to see if it would pick any signal up from the car, cant seem to get anything with it. are the pin outs different from the cable I need?
.
this is the cable I have

when I open the LT1 freescan it gives an error saying saying can not find values or something, and nothing shows up in the comport options. this was my 1st attempt to read a LT1

the box itself is just a converter from serial to usb correct? Do I just need to jump some pins on the cable to make it read the obd1? I read something about that before.

That box and the cables are HP tuners proprietary, it's part of how they control licensing access. You need a basic USB to 16 PIN ALDL cable available via different vendors.
