How robust is a PCM? Can it survive a fire?

I bought a used M6 tranny and motor out of a 94 Z to do a swap. Buddy didn't feel like using high pressure fuel line fittings after he powdercoated his intake, and she caught fire when it hit the headers. The PCM has black melter plastic on it, but the connectors are still there and in tact, just a little melted Any chance this thing survived and worth sending out to have it tuned up to match my car to save down time when I do my install? I'd have to think it's some what robust, but it could also be be fried from wires touching as the insulators melted.

Thanks

Take it appart and examine the internals. If only the connectors show damage, you should be fine.

Thanks for the info, the inside terminals look like new. The orange gasket is also completely in tact for sealing the 2 halves!

Any idea on how to set up a PCM outside a car for programming? I have a parts car with a harness thats been cut up already. Do all the sensors need to be plugged in etc to download it?

Thanks

Fire is going to way exceed the temp ratings for the ICs. May work fine, may fail at some inconvenient point in the future.

Used PCMs are cheap, why take the chance?

That's a silicone gasket. It'll last longer than most of the PCM internals, so I wouldn't use it as a gauge of the PCM's condition. In all likelihood, though, the PCM is probably OK - at least right now. Who knows what damage it suffered that could cause a latent failure.

I no longer have the info in front of me, but take a close look at the factory wiring diagram and make sure you have a solid connection to all of the grounds and all of the +12V feeds. Hook up your setup to the ALDL input, and program away to your heart's content - the PCM doesn't need to be connected any of its usual inputs or outputs, other than power.
