Post How much hp would I gain on a dyno tune vs. mail order

I am currentl running a Pcmforless.com tune. I haven't had a any complaints. But I was wondering how much more hp I could pick up by getting a custom dyno tune. If anyone has done this how much hp did you gain? mods in sig

I don't think the PCMforless tune should be too bad especially since you are running the CC305 (quite common) and stock heads. I wouldn't waste my money on a dyno tune until you get some heads or at least P & P your stockers. After that you could definitley gain some HP.

Hi,
I usually see around a 10HP gain when I do a dyno tune as compared to the mail order on a heads and cam car. With the mail order tunes I can only push the edge so far as I don't have the car there in person and I much rather have a safe tune in the car that doesn't make quite as much power than to be on the dangerous side and do any damage. Like CanadianZ said though I would wait until you do some more

head work and stuff as with your 305 cam and stock heads there wouldn't be much to be found on the dyno as that is a proven combo. With a set of custom heads then it would be worth the effort.
Thanks,

There is no real way to know, you could take an educated guess with some logging, I can tell you that my setup which was not quite the norm, the mail order tune I got from them was unfortunately terrible. Nice to deal with, but I did significantly better with a tune I got from a friend as my baseline, driveability difference was simply insane, the timing work was just not cutting it.

Unfortunately thats a risk with mail order, but with your cam which is pretty common, your timing might be pretty well setup (good chance), but for true WOT tuning nothing beats a dyno IMO. Good chance you are slightly rich for safety.
